Successful Kick-off Event

Consortium meets for Kick-off Meeting in Bad Honnef –

With around 90 participants, the two-day kick-off meeting of the joint project “Quantenrepeater.Net (QR.N)” began on 13 February 2025 at the Physics Center Bad Honnef. The event opened with a presentation by project coordinator Prof. Dr. Christoph Becher, who introduced the structure and main objectives of QR.N. Following a welcome address by Daniel Behrendt from the Federal Ministry for Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR), the heads of the four central platforms – “Semiconductor Quantum Dots,” “Atoms and Ions,” “Diamond Color Centers,” and “Theory” – provided detailed insights into their previous achievements and future research plans. In addition to presenting technological progress within each platform, the discussions also focused on overarching synergies and potential interfaces between the different approaches.

Particular emphasis was placed on the challenges involved in developing scalable Quantum Repeater Technologies, as well as on innovative approaches to optimizing signal transmission and error correction in Quantum Networks. In lively discussions, participants also explored the next steps toward the practical implementation of Quantum Repeaters in real communication infrastructures.

External presentations and engaging poster sessions highlighted the diversity of the field and underscored the crucial role of Quantum Repeaters for Quantum Networks and an increasingly interconnected world. After a successful start, we look forward to three exciting years of intensive research, collaboration, and innovation in the field of Quantum Repeaters and Quantum Networks.
